    Performance and Capability

The new 2020 Explorer is a potent performer. Ford has made some engineering changes that improve the SUV's handling, power, and capability.

The most significant performance change in the new 2020 Explorer is its return to a rear-wheel drive architecture. The change was made to give the Explorer sharper, more dynamic handling along with better towing capacities. If you so choose, you can also get available Intelligent 4WD with Terrain Management System. The pair work together to give the Explorer compelling all-terrain and all-weather confidence and capability.

There's a new lineup of powertrains as well. With the base 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, you'll get a stout 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. An all-new hybrid powertrain offers even more power while improving efficiency. Ford has even added a new Explorer ST high-performance models with a 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 making 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. The Explorer Platinum gets the same engine but tuned to 365 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque.

    Trim Levels

Ford has broken its new 2020 Explorer into four basic trim configurations. With each trim, you'll find a unique mix of standard features that cater to certain types of drivers. But don't worry -- there are plenty of optional features to choose from within each trim level. That means you can still spec out your Explorer to match your individual preferences.

Explorer XLT: Choosing the base trim of the new Explorer doesn't mean you'll get a stripped-out shell of an SUV. On the contrary, the XLT trim has plenty of standard features that make it a compelling option in its own right. With standard rear-wheel drive and a turbocharged EcoBoost engine, the XLT offers excellent driving dynamics. Standard Tri-zone electronic temperature control helps maintain comfort for passengers throughout the cabin.

Explorer Limited: Moving up to the Limited trim adds a few key creature comforts. Climb in the cabin and you'll notice standard stitched leather seats. The Limited model also opts for second-row captain's chairs. Cabin ambient lighting means you can adjust the colors to fit the mood and moment.

Explorer ST: The ST trim is Ford's high-performance variant of the new Explorer. Upgraded brakes, suspension, and other components make for a direct and precise driving experience. But the real excitement is under the hood, where the 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine makes 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque.

Explorer Platinum: Refinement comes standard in the Explorer Platinum. You'll get standard features like a heated steering wheel, quilted leather upholstery, and a twin-panel moonroof. Plus, a variant of the 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 with 365 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque is standard.
