Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The Explorer is equipped with Ford's Co-Pilot 360 that comes standard with blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and lane-keeping assistance. Tire pressure monitor and adaptive cruise control are optional. The 2021 Explorer also gains a standard automatic start-stop feature that helps reduce fuel consumption when in traffic. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The 2021 Ford Explorer comes with a beautifully designed cabin with useful features on all three rows. The Cabin is spacious and comfortable, while the driving position is fantastic. Heated and ventilated front-row seats are now standard on top trims while also gaining power-adjustable driver's seat with memory.

The heated leather-wrapped steering wheel and leather upholstery are standard on high-end models arpimd Ecorse. The second-row seats can now be easily moved by pushing a button to allow passengers to get on the third-row. Two second-row captain's chairs are available on high-end trims, but these reduce passenger capacity to six. The front legroom is measured at 43.0 inches, 39.0 inches for the second-row, and 32.2 inches for the rear. The 2021 Explorer comes with 18.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row and 47.9 inches when the third-row is flat-folded, and 87.8 inches when the second row is folded.

The 2021 Ford Explorer is available with six different trim levels at our dealership in Detroit. This includes the base, XLT, Limited, Limited Hybrid, ST, and Platinum.

2021 Ford Explorer XLT

This is the entry-level 2021 Ford Explorer. It is powered standard by a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that delivers a whopping 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission that delivers a smooth and quick shift around River Rouge. Rear-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is available.

The Explorer XLT also comes standard with 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity, an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment display, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility. The standard Co-Pilot360 features blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert, intelligent access with push-button start, manual day/night rearview mirror, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking.

Exterior features include 18-inch five-spoke silver-painted aluminum wheels, powered side mirrors, LED headlights, and LED fog lamps. The interior is fitted with cloth seats, a manual tilt/telescopic steering column, three 12-volt power points, and a power-adjusted driver's seat.

2021 Ford Explorer Limited

The Limited model is available with a hybrid powertrain that uses a 3.3-liter V6 paired with an electric motor and paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain delivers a total of 318 horsepower and 322 pound-feet of torque. FWD is standard, while AWD is optional. This powertrain's fuel economy is rated at 27 mpg city and 29 mpg highway with the RWD and 23/26 with the AWD Limited model.

The Limited model also gains leather upholstery, power-folding third row, 20-inch wheels, ambient interior lighting, remote start system, front and rear scuff plates with bright inserts, heated leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, universal garage door opener, and twin-panel moonroof.

2021 Ford Explorer ST

The 2021 Ford Explorer ST is powered standard by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 that generates 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. This is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The fuel economy of the Explorer ST with this powertrain is rated at 16/23 mpg city/highway. FWD is standard, while AD is optional.

The ST also gains semi-autonomous active assist, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, forward sensing system, heated steering wheel, a Bang and Olufsen sound system, a voice-activated navigation system, and second-row captain seats with a power-assist fold. It also gains a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and unique exterior and interior accents.

2021 Ford Explorer Platinum

This is the top-tier trim that Explorer has to offer in 2021. It is powered by the same 3.0-liter twin-turbo that powers the ST, but it is tuned to deliver 365 horsepower and 380 pound-feet on the Platinum. It features a twin-panel moonroof, adaptive headlights, 20-inch machined aluminum wheels, tri-zone climate control, illuminated front scuff plates, power door locks, and body-color door handles with satin aluminum inserts.
